The re: BIRTH of Sugardaddy’s

WOW, what a difference just a year makes! It started in March when Tim and I took the L’Oreal strictly business course in New Jersey. After being frustrated sitting on the tarmac at LaGuardia for 3 hours waiting to come home I remember saying “this better have been worth it” and boy has it been.

In less than a 6 months we have: restructured the salon incorporating employees with self sustaining leasers, created department heads, implemented a paid apprentice program, brought in kick-butt employee health care, and created a tiered pricing structure that fits everyones budget.

I was sad seeing people not coming in just because of the all too real recession and budgets. Now, with tiered pricing, a quality woman’s cut starts off at only $20 with a Level 1 designer. Choose higher levels if you have more challenges or to get a solid hair maintenance plan in place. The Level system goes up to Level 6.

We now offer full make up services and retail from Mirbella, L’Oreal’s exclusive mineral make up line. We have also added amazing one of a kind hand made jewelry by Tart as well as hair and home accessories by Spineless Clothing Company. Also, we are now open 7 days a week and evenings.

The response has been over the top! What has all this change meant so far? Well, we were incredibly humbled to receive 2nd place out of 671 nominated salons for “BEST HAIR SALON in WESTERN WASHINGTON” in King5 Evening Magazine “Best of”. We also received 8th for BEST in HAIR COLOR (we love you INOA!) and 13th for BEST MANICURES and PEDICURES! We are so grateful and tickled pink by this accolade.

We are now working on our first television commercial as well as the revamp/relaunch of this website that will be ever-evolving. From online gift certificates to “how-to” videos of styling and maintenance tips from our incredible stylists, we are hoping you are able to incorporate the site into your everyday life.

Be sure to take note of our “thank you’s” with out you and all of them we would be nothing.

Seriously! Thank you to:

Port Orchard, South Kitsap and all of the Westsound for allowing and embracing the growth and change of Sugardaddy’s and helping us continually raise the bar of what salons should be. Don’t you dare settle for businesses who sell you short. Continue to pressure them to raise the bar because you are so worth the “extra mile”!

Sean Bonsell for your incredible (sub-textural) mind and the creation of this web site!

L’Oreal for being the rudder of this ship. Erin Pillo, for her wisdom, Kirstin Magrini for her faith in us, Brittany Reikow for getting us all the amazing swag for all our fundraisers,  Maya Webb, Gerardo Gutierrez and Richelle McLaughlin for your amazing educational skills!

Tim, the ying to my yang.

Yedda and Gunner, your unwavering support of your sons is so treasured! TLF!

Ruth Enderle, you are the wisest woman in Kitsap and beyond. Thank you for taking the time to share your golden advice.

The STAFF of Sugardaddy’s who continually push me to better myself and the salon. For as much as I would like to slap each and every one of you individually at some point each day, YOU ARE THIS SALON!! THANK YOU!

Jamie Nova, Destini Baxter, Lori Anderson and the fans of Witchburn whose loyalty helped us to #2! YOU MELT OUR FACES OFF!

Nicole Pike, James Hunnicut, Sue Quigly, your voices at our evening concerts helped us raise tons of much needed money for some amazing local charities.

Mandy L of Hells Belles, you are generous to a fault, Love your face!

And my amazing cast of friends, well wishers, and haters. I love you one and all, either for the role you played, or the role your playing in my life now.

Last and never least Pickles, my capricorn sister. My heart hurts since you moved away, but our bond is unbreakable.

I sign off with much love, humility and gratitude,
Sugardaddy

Molly Ringwald Still Rules the World!

We all know most of our fashion is dictated thru what we see going on with kids on the street and what Europe is doing. Which is why we travel to Europe so much, so our clients will be “in the know” before the look explodes on this continent. We don’t want you to just follow a trend… we want you at the forefront. We did it again! Whats going on in fashion is…

It’s a Jon Hughes world and Molly Ringwald is Queen. Yes, the eighties are back faster than a black camero! and behind the wheel you will find an asymetrical, permed, vibrant redhead with her denim jean skirt on. The darker CBGB phase we are seeing now will be slowly yielding a colorful pallette of both tropical and neon. Cool club chic will break into that eighties individuality and innocence that made that era what it was. Hold on to your seat, I have even witnessed and been asked to give….rat tails. You remember those don’t you? You know what, it was fun to do… not the feeling I thought I would have felt, but it all feels new again. Bi-levels? H-U-G-E in Europe, even on the men. All you have to do is look at any soccer player on Manchester United (the team that brought us David Beckham) I gotta tell you, when they’re not chasing balls these dude’s know fashion!

So there you go, all our hard work researching Edinburgh, Manchester, London, and Amsterdam have paid off! Your now in the know, and won’t be surprised when you see that 3 tiered denim skirt parading down the runway. In fact, thanks to us, you might have already have your own in your closet!

James Kelsey; this blogs for you

So I got a wonderful email from local artist James Kelsey (you know him, he creates the FAB metal sculptures, that are beautiful as well as relevant) who reminded me to update our blog. I am grateful for this (yes, being told our last blog was 3 month’s old and looks tired, in a nice way of course) because it reminded me how wrapped up I was at work and the need to not forget the basics of my business, of which this blog and website are a huge part.

It also was a great reminder that as people we get wrapped up in the daily grind and forget about ourselves. How many of us forget about updating our look to represent who we are today? Change doesn’t have to come in huge sweeping forms. Even subtle changes representing this growth will do; switching the part in your hair, going from side swept bangs to Betty Page bangs, A-symetrical bangs etc., can totally change a girl’s outlook. Maybe a couple of signature peek-a-boo swatches of color, panels of something you can hide at the office and whip out at night. How bout for those with perfect one length hair this time maybe shattering in the line at the ends for a different kind of movement. It doesn’t have to be a huge commitment… what? Four weeks til it’s grown out?

All these suggestions are great for the commitment-phobe due to their reversability at your next appointment. Trust me, try it! it also helps people not box you into one look when you change it up, even a little. Women are too multifaceted to be boxed in by other’s perceptions.

So I will end this blog with again thanking the universe for looking out for me, and the ‘little’ things in life as well as the ‘huge’. For my loyal friends and family and to you, the Salon’s “Mia Familia”, a big wet air kiss. To James Kelsey for calling us out, thanks for the reminder to stay in the here and now.

Sugardaddy

Short on cash/Big on style

Holiday bills starting to roll in? Taxes looming? What’s a girl or guy who want’s to maintain their fierceness without pinching pennies from the cookie jar to do? Here’s a couple options that Sugardaddy’s thinks might help out!

The “strike-a-pose” alternative would be to sign up for our model list for photoshoots, continuing education night’s and designer try-out’s. You don’t have to look like Kate Moss (leave that to us, wink wink) just be open to new hair styles and color that we might feature in advertising campaigns, or testing out new color and products (we never advocate animal testing of any sort, sure we eat them but test on them? NEVER!) Also, when a new stylist wants to join us we need to see their skills. If this feels like a perfect option for you, call Tim and he will give you the details.

The “scratch our back, we’ll scratch your’s” option is simple, for every new client you refer to us (and they need to let us know at the time of booking you referred them, serious!) you will get 25% off your service. Now this accrues so, if 3 people alert us to your great job of networking that would be 75% off for your services. Use your discount when you would like, all at once, at 25% interval’s, whatever. But there are guideline’s that must be followed; like the letting us know at the time of their booking, the percentage is good for 6 months at time of their completed service, ect.

Don’t forget the specials that we run at the top of the website and on craigslist as well!

We hope this is useful and look forward to hearing from all of you.

I hope 2010 meets and exceeds all of your goals and dreams.

New Year: New Hopes

New Years Eve – 8pm – Playboy mansion in the 60′s.

Be here or live with a huge regret all year! Again this year we will host our annual NYE bash to thank you, our clients, for all the wonderful support you have given us thru the year! Tim will be cooking again, so you know what that means! the most de-lish food EVER! and we will have bunnies cocktail servers, so all we need is YOU!!!

THANK YOU FROM EVERYONE AT SUGARDADDY’S SALON!!!!!!

IT’S FALL!!!!

Right on, I LOVE this time, whether at home or in the salon. This time of the year ROCKS! (except politics, THAT makes me wanna vomit, so I’ll make it quick: vote for Fred Chang for po city council, and YES on REF 71 PLEASE!!!!!) Ok, now that that’s said and done, back to my love for fall, the autumnal colors, the crisp cold air yet blue clear skies, the smell of wood burning, my birthday coming up, ahhhhhhhhh…

And the trends for this fall? double ahhhhhhh! Sassoon’s are coming back with a vengeance, think cbgb’s 1981. It’s all about definition and precision. This will separate the men from the boy’s, so to say, among hairdressers! Rock ‘n Roll mullets? Oh yeah baby, they’re back too. A-symmetrical etc, everything romaniticized about 80′s punk/new wave is once again so hip, so hip it hurts. It gives me happy-pants that we are seeing it take hold of pop culture. Colors rich in gem tones like: violet-blues in brunettes, power blondes in sand or smokey, are hot! hot! hot! Rocket red…? hello old friend! TODAY is the time to have fun! No more inverted graduated bobs that every soccer mom has, thick panels of color (think hooker or bikini barista) are giving way to woven foils, delicate and purposeful. A perfect counterpoint to the solid rich hues mentioned earlier. So let’s make an appointment and have some fun, shall we?

Don’t forget our halloween plans this year. Either bring the kids for a big ol’ handful of candy or if you are kid-less, join us at for the fun. Its on a Saturday so lets rage, kiddies! (yes costume’s are encouraged, let’s not forget last years Bert and Ernie, lol)

Oct 1 – Nov 14th is ‘Port Orchard Fit City Challenge’ and ‘End Hunger Initiative’. PLEASE bring food to the salon so we can get the barrel filled, and help some hungry folks out. I know our family of clients are sympathetic especially where children are concerned, so lets treat others as if it were us that were hungry. Do we really need a reason? They’re human, and they’re starving. Children… are… starving… ’nuff said.

Well that’s our pre-fall rambling. Hope you enjoyed it, and we better see you at our events as well as on our schedules!

Again Kitsap, thank you! It’s you who makes us!

another reason to visit Amsterdam

Xaviera and Philip

Good morning dear  James , Tim and Destini

what a nice surprise to see our picture on your website  and even a plug for my bed and breakfast. Loved the interaction between all of us, gracious  Destini and her wife, you and your man and of course the Amsterdam ambience and for once NICE summer weather all did help to create an unforgettable afternoon in my back yard of Xaviera’s Happy House. If you wish you may place this email on your weblog..  i am not good at those kind of things.

Just want to THANK YOU for  reshaping my naturally white hair since I am  50  and  helping me make it look even more natural and even wavy . I wish we all could live a lot closer, I would definitely be at your doorstep whenever my hair needed  some fluffing up or cutting. Fortunately for me  what counts in life is: what you see is what  you get…

so no painted hair, no silicone breasts and everything about me is AU NATUREL

Please tell your friends indeed to come to my fun Happy House and the right website for that is
